What have I done! (R4 GTL)

After a while story on R4 goes on

It is time to set interior of the car.

Roof lining was obvious first job to do while there is no seats inside to get in the way.

At the start i would like to warn you about one detail that i have learn on hard way.
Bars inside roof lining that holds it tight are not the same and every one has its special position.
So be careful when you take them out to mark their position.

I have put half roof lining in place and find out that bars are in wrong places and i had to remove it from car, change bar position and start all over again.

Which one to use?:D

P5190001.jpg

From this far away they both are perfect, but closer look tels me that one of them is torn in few places.

Choose better one of course

End plugs of the bars (2 are missing on picture)

I have begun on booth side because on front you have wooden frame that is screwed into roof, and this way seems to me more easier
Start is difficult because you need to catch roof lining with channel in roof made for it.
And to do that you need to use rubber hammer and easily tap that roof groove, but problem is that you have only two hands.

But somehow it is doable. After that it goes pretty easily.
But you need to be careful as groove is sharp and can torn roof lining easy.

This is probably the one and only task that's simple on my car. I have a groovy plastic roof lining that's all in one peice. But I will add a sheet of foam stuck to the inside roof to deaden the sound.

And this is how it looks after all is finished

But at the end i noticed one problem. In both leaning was not tighten.
This was because bar could not stretch it self to full length because of isolation on roof (that 13mm i have put)
I was mad but without strength to do it all over again so left it as it is bearing in mind that it is something i need to fix soon.
But after few days battle was going on between isolation and bar, isolation gave away and bar finally stretched to fool length.
And now roof lining is standing tight as it should.

Next job is to made rubber carpets.

Decided to go with two different layer of rubber for more comfortable drive.
First/lower layer is 5mm foam rubber and second/upper layer is 2 mm reinforced rubber
Hope that will do the job nicely

Some anchor point are added at the booth to prevent things from sliding side to side while driving sharp thou corners in R4 (i think everybody here know what that mens - heavy heeling )

Anchor point made before paint job. M10 nut welded to 2mm square plate 50x50mm and then welded to underside.

Does any one here have rear seat belt in R4?
How did you mount them?

They look to big the way i have install them! I would like to hide them somehow

Any ideas?

Can i turn them on other side if this mounting point?

I am close to finish line.....
Need to bleed brakes and i can take car to torsion bar leveling.
Install silencer and straight to MOT

There are some small bits that i need still to do. But that can be done while car is on the road.

Rear booth glass

Rubber carpet beneath heater and radio

Making template for rear wheel arches. Will try to do them same way carpets are done.

Trim around rear window in booth (Thank you JonathanT for template)

Trim on booth door

Radio and speakers.
Big trouble is that i would like to hide speakers and do not know where and how. Inside doors is the only option that i have for speakers.
Radio should be vintage one with modern functions. (MP3, USB....)
Found one that fits all my wishes. But do not know are they any good (beside recension on differante sites)

And that it is all...But for sure will find some more bit that need to be put on car

Keep patience and it will come on road soon....

Thank you!

Excellent work! It is looking great.
I have fitted inertia reel seatbelts like yours in the same place. I think they look OK.

Think original rear seat belts are the "simplest" type, without rolling back when let free.... thus less "invasice " look.
I fitted my speakers in the lower front triangle between the front door pillar and firewaĺl...

You are right Azazello. Rear seat belts were were without that pulling mechanism, so much more invisible....Will try to turn them on other side of mounting point and see what will happen.

That corner is possible solution for front speakers......would like to fit them in some kind of box and squeeze there....thank you for advise.
Rear would probably go between rear set bench, wheel arch, and "C" pillar (rear pillar of rear doors)...also make some kind of box for them

My front speakers are in the same place. I plan to fit a set of rear ones in a parcel shelf, with a quick release coupler from a Peugeot 306 rear parcel shelf to enable me to take it off if needed.

thank you pepper...parcel shelf is common place for rear speakers but would hate myself if i cut out holes for them

You could make a replica parcel shelf out of wood; that is what we have in our car.

Make a parcel shelf from Ply, box the speakers in whilst you're about it to get better sound!

Petak you are a craftsman with wood ...I've seen the boats you design ...maybe wood would be good! A lightweight laminated shelf would be geat and could be finished to look similar to the original

It is aaaaaaliiiiiiiveeeeeeee!

Today i have started engine for the first time in 5 years.

Made few meters up and down in my yard.
Engine run for a minute and then died.
Need some more tune to the carb and belive it will be fine.

Only thin that is not as i think should is dizzy possition.

Will work that one up.

Tonight i have smile frome ear to ear.
