Oh thank you to everyone that has replied with comments of help - you have all been most helpful :-) pleased to be part of this R4 Community

I was at a local powder coaters yesterday to get my roof rack done and asked about wheels. I was quoted £40 a wheel. A word of warning though, the seam between the rim and the knave plate. In a few cases (1 in 10 I was told) rust lurks in there to re-appear later. I would prefer 2-pack paint but that price seems good. I could do them myself with aerosols but they do need blasting, they are that rusty.

The company I talked to would sand blast them back and then respray

But of course, that would go without saying, but blasting wouldn't penetrate within the seam if rust lurked within there.

That joint between rim and plate must be treated with some anti-rust chemical (liquid) that neutralize rust (how to use anti-rust will be described on bottle) even two or three times, and then put paint on it.

That is reason why i decided not to powdercoat my steel rims for R4 but rather paint them.
There is always possibility rust to get thru on that joint

New Fram air filter turned up today, slots on nicely, should help the running the outgoing one was black and filthy. Still in my view a strange design, chuck the entire unit away. Installed new plugs as well, outgoing ones had been on there a fair while by looks of them. Checked the disi, rotor arm and points all good. Cleaned the carb inside and out and thanks to Mr Reno I should have a working exhaust manifold soon, then onto the road I go before a brief spell off the road to take the gear box out, replace the seal and slot in a new clutch while we are at it.. Hopefully this week the gear selector rubbers and fuel filter will turn up.. Improve that's pesky reverse gear selection... Loving life with my 4

Gear change appears more accurate but I am not sure the white grommet from Franzose on the Horizontal bar is correct as seems to move about quite a lot..
